Shopping and public space enhancement
As part of their mission to create vibrant, continually evolving places around thriving cities where people and brands want to be, Hammerson invited theleisureway to collaborate in their revitalization project of Quakers Friars piazza and surroundings, in the heart of Bristol.
The current scheme is a civic space that combines restaurants, cafés, retail, and residential. As stated by the client – and as an opinion shared by theleisureway, ¨Quakers Friars has the foundations and potential to have its own magnet identity and become a premium mixed-use retail and leisure destination¨.
Bristol has an extraordinary cultural scene and strong historical pillars that have given the city a recognisable personality.
Although the location and surroundings had a high population-density, Quakers Friars was, at the time, visually and emotionally disconnected from the city. A design intervention was needed to help people discover, navigate and feel like the place belonged to them.
We had the opportunity to create a place where families, office workers and youngsters meet, shop and stay. A place where they all feel comfortable, just like at home…
This was the basis of our concept, a modern interpretation inspired in the Victorian home aesthetic. A place for all, recognizable and Bristolian.
